Our partnerships are built on trust

We are proud to have collaborated with the John Howard Society of Ottawa and Rideau Social Enterprises on numerous housing projects in the Ottawa area since the late 1990s. We look forward to working with them in the years to come.

Find out what these great organizations provide for our community – and the goods things they have to say about working with PBC Group.

John Howard Society of Ottawa
Ottawa, ON, Canada

The John Howard Society of Ottawa (JHS) is a not-for-profit, charitable organization that offers community services and resources throughout the Ottawa area. Their clients include youths, adults and seniors (male and female) from diverse social, ethnic, linguistic and cultural backgrounds. JHS provides 24/7 supportive housing for those in need. This delivers a safe refuge for children, women and men struggling with physical disabilities, addiction issues and mental health issues. JHS has collaborated with PBC Group in residential developments on eight properties in Ottawa.

Each project was on-time and on-budget, creating excellent long-term housing for JHS residents. JHS welcomes any opportunity to work with the professional and personable PBC Group team. There is a significant social housing shortage in Ottawa and PBC Group has demonstrated their capacity to be an important part of the housing solution.

Sponsorship

PBC Group is committed to giving back to the community that has supported us for decades. Over the years, we have sponsored a number of organizations, with a particular focus on those that support the health and wellbeing of children. Here are a few of the causes that are particularly close to our hearts.

Y Cycle for Kids events

The annual Y Cycle for Strong Kids is an indoor cycle event that is aimed to raise funds for the YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital Region’s Y Strong Kids Campaign. In 2015 PBC Group was the title sponsor for this event and in 2016 we were a community sponsor. The Y Cycle for Strong Kids is a fun and energetic indoor cycling fitness challenge held at the Taggart Family Y annually. Teams of four participate in a one-hour, instructor-led cycling event, which includes great music, videos, team and costume competitions, and many prizes!

Y Cliff-hanger event

PBC Group was the title sponsor for the 2016 YMCA-YWCA Cliff-hanger event, which raises money to send kids to Y camp. It was the Y’s third annual Cliff-hanger event, where participants rappelled down the east side of the Shenkman Residence Tower of the 16-storey Taggart Family Y (supported by experts, of course!) Teams participated by donating a minimum of $1,000 to the event. Since Cliff-hanger began in 2014, the Y has raised more than $40,000, which it uses to support its Send Kids to Y Camp programming.

Creating a stronger YMCA-YWCA

PBC Group’s Y sponsorship helps support the Y Strong Kids Campaign. The campaign gives kids the chance to participate in programs that help them grow and reach their full potential, like summer camps, affordable child care, before and after school care, and much more. One in five local kids, teens and families who come to the Y are unable to afford the full cost of participation in a Y program, but they still need safe environments, caring and trained volunteers and staff, and programs that teach life skills. The Y’s financial assistance programs allow everyone in our community to have access to Y programs and services, regardless of their background or financial situation. All proceeds from the Y Cycle for Strong Kids and Y Cliffhanger events are directed towards the Y Strong Kids Campaign, and to those children and families in the community that need our help the most.

Ten Oaks Bowl-a-thon

PBC Group is a major sponsor of 2016 Ten Oaks Bowl-a-thon, which supports Ten Oaks children’s camps. The event welcomed participants of all ages, skill levels and abilities to bowl, play arcade games and win prizes. After a successful day, the event raised $40,000 to send more kids than ever before to camp.

The Ten Oaks Project is a charitable, volunteer-driven organization that engages and connects children and youth from LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, two-spirit, queer) families, identities and communities.
