City of Ottawa awards contract to the John Howard Society with PBC Group as Development Managers and Construction Managers
The City of Ottawa awarded funding to the non-profit John Howard Society of Ottawa, a not-for-profit, charitable organization committed to providing a broad range of evidence-based and outcome-driven community services throughout the Ottawa area. PBC Group is the designated Development and Construction Manager for this project – our eighth project building for the John Howard Society.
A contribution agreement between the City of Ottawa and the John Howard Society includes a provision that affordable housing will be provided for at least 35 years. PBC Group will provide Development Management Services. The development as proposed includes a five-storey midrise apartment building. The 36 self-contained dwelling units range from 25.5m² to 34.4m² and include a kitchen, closet and bathroom with shower. The building is designated to be fully accessible, with five accessible units. The ground floor provides residents with a range of common amenity spaces, including a lounge, a dining area and a common kitchen. In addition, the ground floor includes office space for staff. An elevator and staircase are provided to service the building from the basement floor through to the fifth floor. Additional amenity areas are provided on the basement level in the form of a multi-purpose room and exercise room. The rear of the building will include a large patio and landscaped area.
PBC Group has a long history with the John Howard Society. Since our involvement in their real estate development activities, they have become a model for Canada in providing “effective, just and humane responses to the causes and consequences of crime.”
